PhD programmes at the University of Cardiff

The School of Modern Languages at Cardiff University invites applications to its PhD programmes in Modern Languages (Catalan, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese) and in Translation Studies, including prestigious AHRC-funded opportunities.

We warmly welcome enquiries from prospective doctoral students to discuss possible research projects ahead of full applications. We have particular expertise in the areas of conflict (including labour relations), development and disaster studies; translation, adaptation and performance; visual cultures; theories and ideologies of capitalism and crisis; migration, travel, borders; notions of the body/embodiment/identity; and colonial and postcolonial cultures and societies. AHRC studentships: Cardiff School of Modern Languages is a member of the Languages and Cultures panel of the AHRC South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (AHRC SWW DTP), which offers competitively-awarded fully-funded PhD scholarships. South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership students benefit from a diverse range of training workshops, opportunities to engage with partners in the arts, heritage, media and cultural sectors, and collaborative supervision giving them access to a range of specialist expertise shared across institutions.  To find out more about the AHRC SWW DTP and the deadlines for application for 2015, visit  http://www.sww-ahdtp.ac.uk/
