Celebrating Dante's 750th anniversary of birth in Nicosia

The Italian Embassy in Cyprus cordially invites you to an event to celebrate the 750° anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri, organized in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the University of Cyprus and with the Dante Alighieri Society of Cyprus.

Dedicated to one of the greatest poets of all time, the evening seeks to create a “bridge of poetry” between Italy and Cyprus through readings of Dante and of great Greek poets. The event will be enlivened by two famous contemporary poets, Michalis Pieris and Antonella Anedda.

The evening will feature:
- A lecture by renowned Italian poetess, art historian and essayist Antonella Anedda, titled Dante: VIII canto, The Exile (Purgatory);
- A reading of pages from the Divine Comedy translated into Greek by illustrious poets (Valaoritis, Kavafis, Kazantzakis, Seferis e altri), performed by members of THEPAK (University of Cyprus Theatrical Workshop);
- A performance of pieces of Italian medieval music by two young talented musicians, soprano Eleonora Aleotti and maestro Jacopo Mosesso.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 7 June 2016, 8.30 PM, a the Cultural Centre of the University of Cyprus, Manor House on Axiotheas Street, Old Nicosia.
