Italian at the University of Leeds is happy to support applications to the Leverhulme Early-Career Fellowship scheme.

Information about the scheme can be found here:

Information about colleagues' research interests in Italian at Leeds can be found here:

Given our recent successes in creating post-doctoral positions (5, at the moment, funded by the ERC and the AHRC), we are well placed to offer suitable applicants a supportive and rewarding environment in which to work. Italian at Leeds is one the most innovative subject areas on campus and one of the top rated Italian departments in the country, ranking second in the RAE 2008. Italian is part of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, the largest of its kind in the UK, which has research groups focusing on a wide range of areas: Cultural Studies; Film and Visual Culture; History; Language, Linguistics and Translation; Literary Studies; and Social Science.

Research proposals specialising just in Italian as well as those of a more interdisciplinary nature will be welcome.

Our internal deadline for applications is 15 JANUARY 2014. If you are interested in applying to hold a Fellowship at Leeds, please contact the Director of Italian, Dr Gigliola Sulis ([log in to unmask]), as soon as possible. These expressions of interest should include:
i)  a one-page summary of the research proposal which sets out the scholarly context in which the research will be undertaken, the research questions to be addressed, the methodology to be used, and the proposed outcomes of the project; and
ii) a short CV which also outlines how the proposed research will fit into the research environment of Italian and the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Leeds.

If judged suitable at this preliminary stage, candidates will be invited to submit a detailed draft application by 7th February 2014.
